It was the International Yoga Day yesterday. So in the honor of this day let’s talk about the handstand yoga pose!
At first glance, handstands look very intimidating (specially how this fashionable model looks in this photo!). It is not a position you are in naturally during the day, unless you are a gymnast or do yoga.
It is simple to do, specially because it doesn’t need any special equipments or setups. It is also has many health benefits that not a lot of people talk about it..hence why it is definitely one of the most underrated exercises!
Below I have listed a few of the benefits:
1.Mood Booster: Since there is an increased blood flow to your brain, you end up feeling energized, while reducing the production of stress hormones such as Cortisol, which leads to a more calm, less stressed you.
2.Bone Health: Strengthens your bones, making you less prone to osteoporosis and helps bone health in your spine, shoulders, arms, and wrists.
3.Upper Body Strength: By holding yourself upside down for a period of time, you need to rely on your shoulders, arms, and upper back strength, so the more you repeat this, the stronger your upper body will become.
4.Increased Circulation: By being upside down, it relieves pressure off your feet and legs, while increasing blood flow to your lungs.
5.Increased Balance: Doing freestanding handstands or doing them against a wall and trying to take your feet off the wall for as long as possible will help increase your balancing abilities like no other exercise.
6.Core Strength: While being upside down, in order to not fall, you need to stabilize your muscles by working your abs, which as a result leads to tightening your core.

Good luck! 🙂
